Hire me

Ever in need for maps that are beautiful and playable? You can hire me for that!

I mostly work with Photoshop and, of course, RPG Maker VX Ace, if it is for an RPG Maker VX Ace game. I also have experience with Gimp, Illustrator and a little bit with Blender. But no matter what tilesets and graphics you have in mind, I can work with it, may it be standard rtp or a custom tileset. I have no problem mixing different tilesets and graphics, creating one nice, cohesive look. Maybe you want to mix various RPG Maker resources, but don’t know where to start? I can help with that, too.

I offer three basic packages: Editor Mapping and Overlay/Parallax Mapping, as well as Tileset Preparation.

Editor Mapping

This is done strictly in RPG Maker VX Ace (I will perhaps offer other game editor software in the future). Meaning, you provide the finished tilesets and the instructions on how the map is supposed to look like. This can be done with a short description, a sketch etc. You will get the finished product as an RPG Maker VX Ace project. This package also includes, if you want, a constructive feedback and beta testing of your game.

Price: Add the height and width of the map size together and divide it in two, this is the dollar price. For instance, a map with 25 height and 50 width would be 75/2 = 37,50 Dollar.

Maybe you only need help with a basic layout and you want to decorate it yourself? No problem, I also provide rough mock-ups that only include floor, cliffs, water and houses (only walls/roofs). I don’t have a fixed price for that, because I normally do those in bulk, so contact me, if you are interested in base layouts. They are, of course, cheaper (and faster done) than the normal Editor Mapping.

Overlay/Parallax Mapping

Here I use RPG Maker VX Ace and Photoshop. Sometimes I do the base layout in RPG Maker VX Ace, but if the game is not for RPG Maker, I work with Photoshop only. You provide the graphics and an instruction on what you want the map to look like. The more I know what the player is supposed to do in the map, the better I can shape it towards those goals. Maps/Levels done in Photoshop allow for much more creative freedom, breaking the normal grid. But I always try to aim for a map design that is not only pretty, but playable and entertaining in-game.
I deliver the Overlay Map either in a psd-file with as much layers as you want or as png files, separated into floor, parallax and so on.
This package also includes small edits and recolors of graphics to offer more variety in the map, as well as (if you want) constructive feedback and beta testing of your game.

Price: Because Level Design in Photoshop is a lot more time-consuming than using RPG Maker VX Ace, the price reflects that. Add the height and width of the map size together, the sum is the dollar price. For instance, a map with 25 height and 50 width would be = 75 Dollar.

If you don’t know the RPG Maker map size, always multiply the size with 32 and you get the exact pixel size. Meaning a 25×50 RPG Maker map would be a 800x1600px sized map/image.
If you have a lot of water bodies in your map that requires mapping them in additional three or more frames for an animated parallax, the price could go up.

Tileset Preparation

This includes researching the web for you for suitable resources and then selecting various tiles to put in usable tilesets for RPG Maker VX Ace. This is strictly above board, meaning I will only include resources for which you have permission from the creators. I will also make small edits, arranging and recolors to fit the tileset for your needs. You could combine this with the Editor Mapping package to have maps done in the RPG Maker VX Ace editor that will almost look like parallax maps.

Price: Really depends on what you are looking for.

Attention! If you want at least 50 maps done, I offer a discount of 20%!!

I really like to invest myself in a project and since it is time-consuming to familiarize myself with new graphics for every new game, I like to work on a lot of maps for the same project. Hence the big discount!

How do I pay?

I use paypal since it is safe for both of us (although it always takes a big chunk from my payment), but if you are looking for a different payment option, we can talk about that, too. For customers that pay with Euro, I would offer normal IBAN/BIC transaction.

When do I pay?

You don’t have to pay upfront. I normally make the first (or only) map and show it to you as a screenshot. You get the psd, png or rpg maker files after you paid. If you order more than one map, I like to get paid in portions after I completed some of the maps. As before, I show you only screenshots (I upload all of my process into my private dropbox or e-mail you) and after I got paid, you get the files and with them my permission to use them how you see fit. I think, this is a good way to build some trust between us.
